Medicine and veterinary medicine in Stara Zagora

Medical Studies

The specialty is accredited by a resolution of NAOA, CM of 16.10.2008.
In the faculty is carried out highly qualified and specialized academic, teaching, research and diagnostic-therapeutic activity, realized in the University hospital, consultative, organizing, methodical and other activities.
The training of the Faculty of Medicine is in full conformity with the State requirements for acquirement of high education in the specialty ‘Medicine’ and is carried out during 6 years – 10 academic semesters and 10 months State practice while State exams are passed. The faculty curriculum includes 52 compulsory and 36 optional subjects. A system for accumulation of credits of different subjects for the full course of study of medicine is introduced according to studied compulsory and optional subjects. In the ratified new curriculum of 2009 practice training for students from 1st till 6th year is compulsory. In the faculty of Medicine can be trained Bulgarian and foreign persons graduate at ‘Medicine’ for acquiring a specialty or qualification and full-time doctorates. Profound knowledge of graduates of Faculty of Medicine at Trakia University, Stara Zagora, gives them a chance for good professional realization in our country. Graduate foreign and Bulgarian students make equal their diplomas in other countries successfully. Since 2011 graduate doctors receive also and European diploma supplement, if they so desire.
The form of medical study is only full-time which is carried out according to a curriculum, worked out on the basis of Unified State requirements for the specialty. After been graduate of the full course of study (6 years), students obtain professional qualification ‘Doctor of Medicine’ and educational qualification degree ‘Master of Medicine’.

Veterinary Medicine

The first classes began the spring semester of the 1923-1924 academic year with 33 students and was held in the bacteriological station and the Military Veterinary Hospital. The first study was approved by the School Board on January 12, 1924 and consists of 40 courses with a specific number of theoretical and practical hours per semester.

A research center was created, that was the main condition for rapid progress and quality of science in the coming years. The research center also enabled the regular publication of the annual activity of faculty in research.

For many years, Professor Pavlov marked the development of veterinary Bulgaria, he is the founder of the State Veterinary.

On July 21, 1995, by decision of the 37th National Assembly, the University of Thrace in Stara Zagora opened its doors and the veterinary school is part of the Medical School. For 85 years, the veterinary school in Stara Zagora has trained about 12,000 professionals veterinarians in order to overcome the existing deficit. The school has gained international detection is the Department of Veterinary Medicine as a famous institution of higher education, motivated many countries to send their citizens to a degree in veterinary medicine in Bulgaria after the academic year 1947-1948.Peripou 400 foreign citizens from 46 countries have graduated from veterinary school and 60 have done their doctoral studies here.
